Need help with waterer - pvc pipe/hose, valve, nipples, bucket

I have been successful using vertical nipples and my horizontal nipples. I used a 21/64 drill bit and then used a 3/8 x24 tap to put threads in the material. I've had no leaks and have used PVC as well as plastic containers. If you are cracking the material, you could try drilling slower and predrilling with a smaller bit, then step up to the 21/64 drill bit before tapping the thread.

Thinking about dripping nipples, and knowing I may have to move the water inside during the winter, I decided against the nipples and went instead with these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281130738417&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

They can be mounted on the side of a bucket, or underneath one. I mounted mine on the side, high enough up so that if I set the bucket on the ground, the cups are about an inch above the dirt/grass. I plan to set the bucket on blocks, but this way I can set it down if I need to.

I have my 5 gallon bucket outside the coop and the hose goes through a small opening I made in the hardware cloth on the coop. I attached the PVC nipple part with those little plastic ties right on the wire. Here is mine.

What did the male end of the hose screw into? I've spent like 2 hours trying to figure out what a hose end goes into other than the spicket.

I see you've added the "T- shaped" pvc fittings that have the place to just screw in the nipple. Your original photo on this post shows the nipples attached to the pvc pipe without the fittings. Did your original design leak? Is that why you added the pvc fittings? I have all the stuff to make something like your original photo, but I'm wondering if I should wait and order those pvc fittings from ebay.

Yes, when the nipples were attached directly to the pipe it leaked. I tried silicone and thread tape with no luck. The threaded t's are working perfectly. Now that it has been in place for a while the only thing I see that I would change is spacing of the nipples. They should be farther apart.
