About 2 months ago I took in an entire flock, coop and all. 2 adult hens, 1 rooster, 5 young chicks being raised by one of the hens and 2 ducks (both female). As the babies grew I discovered 2 of the babies are roosters. These 2 have come to age and are obsessed with mounting everyone, including the ducks. About a week ago one of the ducks stopped laying. I thought it was due to the stress caused by the two roos harassing everyone. 2 days ago I noticed this same duck laying in the yard a lot and pumping her tail, so I became concerned she was egg bound. I gave her warm Epsom salt baths and extra calcium and I believe she layed the egg this morning. The trouble is she is still laying in the yard pumping her tail. Is it possible the is another egg in there or is something else wrong?

Welcome to BYC. It is possible that she has a soft shelled egg. Can you put her back in a tub of warm water?

If a vet is an option, call them and see what they say. While many times these things work themselves out, many times the don't.

Yes, she is a sweetie and can have as many warm baths as she wants. I just didn't want to do anything that could make her worse. She is eating and drinking normally just not real active and pumping her tail constantly. I will look to see if I can find a vet that treats ducks.

Letting her spend some time in a bathtub of warm water will help if she is trying to pass another egg.

Hi there!!

If you can get a video of her acting this way, that would be helpful.

1st check to see if she’s not hiding the eggs on you. I would start a calendar to track her progress. Write down what both duck lay each day. This will be helpful for you to look back on.

Does she look bloated? This a saggy bottom?

Also what’s your temps were you are? Could she be hot?

She doesn't look bloated but she does penguin walk. I don't think she is hiding eggs because she never seems to wonder off. The past week she comes out the coop, finds a spot and that's pretty much where she stays for the day. I'm in Virginia. It is in the 40's - 50's here so she definitely not hot. After doing some more research I don't think she was egg bound. From what I read they won't poop when they are egg bound and she poops fine. Didn't look runny or smell any different. I will get a video

If you do a video you have to upload it to YouTube or Vemo 1st then copy the link and then post the here. Just an FYI

She is getting better! Slowly starting to be active again but hasn't laid but the one egg. I think it is viral. My husband reminded me she is acting the same way one of the Rhode island reds was acting when were got the flock. At the time I thought she was just stressed from the move but it took about 3 weeks to go back to being herself and laying. I think she is going to be fine. She actually hunted around today instead of finding a spot to stay for the day. On another note, I went to tractor supply yesterday and couldn't help but bring 2 ducklings home with me. Any ideas on how old they are? They are being kept inside far away from my sick girl.
