Need help!!! Back of chicken is bloody and looks like its been pecked at, bloody and gross tissue. She is separated with food and water and seems fine. Has a lump on her back and once in a while when an egg won't be laid, they get a lump on their back (like a camel) and an super duper egg is laid the next day. This doesn't look good, tho. Any advice, short of a vet which seems ridiculous for a chicken, they are not pets.

I would give her a gentle bath and clean up her back end so you can see what is causing the blood. She might have prolapsed or she could be injured. Get back to us when you see what is going on.

Something is hanging out, now that we cleaned her up and if prolapse is what I am thinking, that's what it probably is if its an organ hanging there. She doesn't even know anything is wrong. She's eating, drinking, and walking around when I let her out of a little doggy cage we have to keep her separated. What to do?

flush the prolapse with sterile saline (you can make your own by boiling 1/2 tsp of salt in a quart of water at full boil for five minutes) > let cool to luke warm and then flush the prolapse copiously... let air dry and then apply KYgel to the prolapse and then gently reinsert > afterwards apply hemmorroid ointment (the one with no pain relief in it) around the rim of the vent and put bird in dark quiet room >if necessary repeat.

Thank you for the info. I just read on an earlier post someone used honey? and it worked? Is this safe?

It would need to be UNpasteurized...
If you have those "candy" thingys of dextrose you can add that to the saline (same principle > the dextrose will help "shrink" the prolapse)
