is there any way to tell which chicken lays what egg?

I don't know how you'd do that without separating them or putting a video camera on the nest box and marking your chickens. I get some small eggs and some misshaped eggs and have wondered which chicken is doing it. I suspect the small egg is coming from my runt barred rock the misshaped I don't know. They all taste the same. I sell when I have extras and just keep the abnormal or small ones for myself.

A little food coloring on the vent should tell you.

so just put some drops on the vent

You can actually out the drops kind of IN their vent. I have heard of people doing that. I just rig up a nest box that will lock in whoever enters and keep my eye out for when a hen is in there. The egg in the box belongs to the hen trapped in the box. It is kind of a time intensive project though.

how do you rig it to keep them in?
