NEED IMMEDIATE HELP PLEASE!!!!! Inject foot or breast with Pen G?

I just bought Pen G to give our hen with bumblefoot. On line I read to inject 1/2 cc intramuscularly in breast or thigh. Gail Damerow's Chicken Health Handbook says to inject 1/2 cc directly into the swollen pad (if I read it correctly).

Her pads are not very swollen.

If I inject the feet, is it 1/2 cc each side or 1/4 cc each side totalling 1/2?

Anyone with experience please help ASAP, we want to get her started on this tonight!

I'll tell you, it's easier to do the thigh or the breast rather than the pad. The needle wont go in that well and the bird may actually feel it more, from the way they act, than in the breast or thigh. I've done both.

We took speckledhen's advice and injected her in the breast. She was heavily swaddled in towels, of course. Once mom (SeaChick) got it right she said it was easy. Then we changed the bandages on her foot and let her go. She seems none the worse wear! Thanks again!

Good for you! Hope she gets much better soon. Bumblefoot is a pain, not only in the footpad, either! I have four with it now. My very heavy girls get it from time to time and Meg, poor girl, has it in both feet. I guess I could quit allowing them to freerange for awhile and they'd have a softer, safer environment in the coops and pens and maybe would get over it.
