i took my 2 week old chicks out for the first time today and they were eating a few bugs, I seen on here that if they eat bugs they need grit, Are they to young yet to have it ?. My local feed store wont have any till monday will they be ok untill then ?. Also when i get the grit how should i give it to them ?.

I dont know this by experience, as I provide chick grit to my fuzzies, but from what I have heard, if they were ranging outside, they should have had access to pebbles, sand, dirt ect that would act as grit... Hopefully someone with more experience can be a bit more helpful!

my only access to pet supplies is walmart. i got some bird grit and used it. it was very small the chicks have done well on it. i just poured it into a bowl and let them have it free choice. my chicks are 5 weeks old. but, if you free range them enough they will have access to grit from the ground and you would not need to supplement. to be safe i would get them some chick grit or bird grit and put it in the brooder until they go full time free range.

and BTW, when you do provide grit, I would recommend just putting a bit of it in a shallow dish for them. That way they can get it when they want it, free choice and all that jazz
