Hello everyone!

I am thinking of getting Peafowl. I have a few questions.

Are they hard to take care of? Are they kind of like chickens to care for?

Do they wander from home? Do I need to keep them penned up?

Thanks!

I'm rather curious about this myself. I think they'd be very cool on our farm - plus the benefit of desensitizing the horses! (I'm so evil to my horses!).

Very easy to care for.

They will wander yes. If you want to experiment with free range peafowl, let them get used to thier surroundings and then let the male only out...he wont go far without the mate.

Hope this helps

Easy to care for IMO i do feed them a special diet even though they free range and they get free choice flock raiser out for all my flocks of birds if they want but rarely eat it .
I am on 100 acres and mine tend to stay within the front 25 acres where the other flocks hang out but i have found them in the back of my property looking for berries and muskydines.

It may take awhile, but you will learn a whole lot just going thru all the topics
posted on this forum, what 92 pages or soo.
There are other websites that have a lot of info and pictures & there are a lot of colors to choose from.
You can find other sites from the posters/reponders in those 92 pages.

http://www.peafowl.org/
is another website that has info on them & they have a breeders directory.

They do take some time to get them acclimated to your place
(if you get some and just release them right away they may take off and never return).
Close neighbors may not care for the calls they make during breeding season.

I have some penned and some free range. The ones that are loose I kept penned for some time (6 mo).
I also have acreage to let them wanderaround and only a few time have they disappeared for more than half a day.
