It's been nice and warm outside, and she loves to spend her days sunning herself. I do bring her inside for an hour or so every night to get some egg and water and vitamins into her as well as give her a VetRx steam treatment. I'll be home from work soon and will see how she is.

@casportpony can I use the Baytril with the Tylan50? (she has 2 days left of injections for 5 days of treatment) I could call my equine vet and have her get some ready for me. What would the dosage be for it?

It can be injected if they have enough breast muscle, or if you know how to give injections under the skin, but it can also be given orally.

It is banned for use in poultry, but many people still use it and eat the eggs and meat of birds treated with it. I also mentioned Amikacin because it's not banned, though it's not cheap.

If she were mine I would get her in an 80-85 degree cage, tube fluids, and start Baytril. I'm pretty hard core and understand that this is more than most want to do, and I understand.

I totally understand. I've been going into the coop every night after they've roosted and have been giving shots to 30 birds lol. Good thing needles are cheap! What would you recommend for dosage for her and for how long? I'm guessing any others that seem to have this crud "dwell" could use it too.

Your equine vet might not have Baytril unless they also treat cattle and swine because it's not in horses, but they might have Amikacin.

The most common Baytril dose for birds is 10 mg/kg twice a day for five days.

If this really sick hen is a pet I would treat her with the Baytril, but the others I would think about using something like Denagard. Denagard is approved for use in laying hens in the UK, but it's not approved here. Keep n mind that there is a huge difference between "not approved" and "banned". Any drug that is not banned *can* be used.

You can buy Baytril without a script, but you have to order it. You can also buy Denagard without a script from Valley Vet I think.
