Need opinions and or thoughts regarding Buff Orpington hens

Hello,
Looking to get a Buff Orpington layer as a companion for my 4 yo Barred Rock ,(Dottie) who lost her friend( RIP Wynonna Ryder) also a BR. I've never owned a BO and would like some advice , health, temperament, etc.
Thank you.
I'm new to this but I have 4 Buff Orpingtons and they and friendly, appear to get along with each other most of the time. They love being outside but that's true for all chickens! How they interact with other breeds, I don't know but they are known to be very docile.

I have six Orps, they’re lovely birds!
All of them are very sweet and get along well with the rest of the flock.
They lay consistently as well, and are some of my hardiest ladies in terms of health issues.
None of mine are particularly cuddly, but I didn’t raise them to be. I’m certain you wouldn’t have any trouble working with the bird if you wanted her to be the snuggling sort.

Good luck!

my one and only encounter with the BO is all it takes. The only chickens that has ever chased me - My BO roo - and my BO hen wont let anyone eat- I had to seperate them. I am going to get rid of them, let them live with someonew who doesnt mind that stuff. I dont like it . All my other birds are so nice- SOme run from me, others run up to me for food and to be held. BO has been my worst experience yet. I know all birds are different but I dopnt have much to compare to when 2 out 2 are mean

Oh my! That's not my experience. I did get pecked once when I picked up another one over her, but she got over it because I still picked up the one I wanted at that time! How long have you had them?

got them at 2 days old from TSC - they are now 16 weeks old well born july 18th- They are both so agressive- I even have 4 game chickens that are so much nicer than these 2 . Usually games ,esp roos, you have to watch , but mine are so relaxed around me, not everyone, but me. they let me feed and clean and just cluck around me . No chasing or pecking

I owned 6 orpingtons (now 5) and they are the sweetest! They are large breeds, and can be pretty lazy, so are prone to obesity. They are (usually) docile, so if you have other breeds they might get bullied. They are not the greatest layers, in my experience. There are many other colours you can choose from, though, which have similar temperaments. Good luck!

I hope someone chimes in that can give you some advise. I got mine from TSC this past May and with no issues. They are close to 31 weeks now. I have nothing to offer in the form of help before you give them away (I wish I did). Best to you
