2 nights ago something got into my chicken pin and killed all but 2 hens. I had 3 real pretty white silkys and the rest are the people call them easter egg chickens. Because they lay different color eggs. I want to get some more silkys and was wondering if ideal poulrty breeding farms was a good place to get them? Also I need help desiding on the color. They have white, red, black, buff, blue, and partridge.

Before you order...reinforce your pen and or coop. I lost 7 of mine to a dog. I recently got silkie incubating eggs and they are in the bator.

But BEFORE I got more, I redid my entire run/pen. I personally don't think it's fair to the chicken babies to buy more if the pen setup is not stronger-otherwise you will keep loosing chickens (and yes, I know there are some instances beyond our control). I personally am NOT going to feed the neighborhood animals MY chickens anymore.

Just a thought

By the by: Never ordered from a hatchery myself. I get the hatching eggs or go to the local feedstore for chicks. I ordered hatching eggs of white, red, buff, black, and blue splash silkies. The dog that got mine seemed to like the white and buff better than the other colors.

Hello,
Backyardchickens has a subject titled buy-sell-trade on the main index page located near the bottom. If you look there they will have lots of eggs for sale by BYC members-they even have chicks and full grown chickens for sale. Or you can check out www.eggbid.com or ebay. On ebay you put in "silkie hatching eggs". When you purchase eggs that will be shipped to you, look for a seller as close to your area as possible. Shipping a long distance can be hard on the eggs.

Check your phonebook or the internet for a feed store or farm store near you. Many times they sell chickens, and day old chicks for very reasonable prices.

Check out the BYC subects on how to incubate and hatch chicks. Plus there are coop designs to help keep future predators out.

Best wishes
