Need photos of turkey nests

the breeder we picked up our turkey poults from just had a box that looked like a low roofed dog house, the hens were happily nesting away in them. I am going to use a dog igloo in a secure pen.

Forgot to add he told us he leaves the tom in until the poults are born then removes the tom so he does not hurt them.

sounds like that'd work, anything to make them feel suqure and covered will do just fine to keep them happy

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I should just put a pile of brush in the corners!!

I know it seems crazy-early, but I think my BR tom and hen started breeding already yesterday... They are early! I know one year my hen was laying in February so maybe that's what'll happen again.

The funniest was last year -- my last tom had died in November. So I bought another tom in February and my hens hadn't seen a tom in those 3-4 months. Well the second they saw new Mr. Tom, at 7 a.m. in the morning, they ran after him and all plopped down on the ground in front of him, literally, in a row. It was almost shameful, those girls!!

For my turkeys, I use a large plastic basket, ( It's like 8 in high, 2ft long, and 1.5 ft wide and I have put some hay in it and hung it up of the ground a few feet both in an 8x8 barn and when I move them to an outside sheltered roost, I hung the basket up in there and they layed in it fine both places. Sometimes though, I think they lay early in the morning while they are still actually on the roost, I have found eggs laying under their roost poles before.

I have several boxes hanging on the wall about 2 feet off the ground that they use. They are 2 feet long, 1 foot wide & 6 inches deep, lined with pine shavings. They seem to like them. I've hatched out SEVERAL turks in these boxes.

this is a little late, but i keep mine in the barn at night due to i let them freerange and the predators would get the hen at night, so could i learn a nice piece of wood against a wall like a lean-to with the inside being dark for her to lay her eggs?

My turks do not seem to want to lay in their coop. Typical routine ... I open the door of their coop (10 x 15 ft) in the morning before I got to work, and they pop out like jack-in-the-boxes, never to go back in until it's dark that night and they want to roost. I have a doghouse outside for them too, but they NEVER go inside it to lay eggs. Instead they wander all over the farm and fields looking for their nest egg spot. Why don't mine lay in a nice spot in the coop, like your-alls do?
