Need pics of Red Pyle chicks. Working on Red Pyle Ameraucana project.

I can't find any photos of juvenile Red Pyle birds. Only newly hatched chicks and adults.

I need to see what the juvenile plumage looks like at different ages, mainly males. Doesn't really matter what breed, Old English Game, Ohiki, Brahma, whatever.

I'm working on a Red Pyle Ameraucana, and I think I have a male chick, but his breast feathers look a lot like a females would. Does the white breast only come with maturity/male hormones? If not, this chick might be (another) female.

The males breast should always be white, but it can have some red ticking in it if the male is dark in his wings and top color. A female will have a salmon breast, but it will be varying degrees of darkness. This holds true even in Juvenile birds.
With Pyle's if you get them the proper color of red or salmon they will have red or black in the areas that should be solid white. If you get them solid white where they should be, they will fail in the colored areas.
But you probably know all this.

No, actually I didn't realize that. I noticed it to be so, but didn't know why some were different. Kind of self defeating. It's similar to one of the problems with Black Copper Marans. You want more copper in the neck of the female, but then they seem to throw more male chicks with unwanted red in the breast.....one of the reasons I chose to breed Wheatens instead!

Here are a couple of pictures of some Red Pyles I use to raise. They are Large Old English, John Freeman strain. Notice the black in the males tails. The pullets are way over colored but that is because these were a male line. I wouild get a few Females that were properly white but they usually had light salmon breast.

Here are my females. I hope I'm not just WAY off.

How do you get the white whiter? Do you just keep selecting for the whitest body and breed only those?

Also, I have one female with a tinge of blue-gray. I read somewhere that it could be from the dilute/blue gene interferring with the dominant white....or something like that.

This is the chick I'm hoping is male.

Just an update.

I've gotten a few chicks that I think are pretty decent Red Pyle Ameraucanas. I'm also working on the Black Breasted Red Ameraucana, in order to get a better Red Pyle. Still haven't gotten a male I'm happy with though. I've only gotten a couple so that doesn't help. Most of my chicks have been female.

What are you crossing to get the red pyle color in the Ameraucana. Where did you get your Ameraucana stock? Just curious I have thought a lot of starting this project myself.

herechickchick... I got some of my original stock locally (no big name breeder) and some were from hatchery stock. I picked up the dominant white gene from a small group of hatchery Ameraucanas (mixed colors or Easter Eggers) from our local farm store. I noticed a few solid colored chicks in a bin of typical chipmunk striped Easter Eggers. They all had the correct conformation, combs, beards, etc... so I bought them. I already had one Black Breasted Red Ameraucana/EE adult female. I just had to wait for the chicks to mature. I'm sure I'll have to cull heavily the first year or two, but then I should have a few nice birds to work with.

I'm pretty much through breeding this year though. I'm out of room in all my pens for anything else. I'm using my breeding pens now for grow out pens.

I also have Lavender and Black/Lavender Split stock that I got from John Blehm, and a few from Jean. I'd have to say that Lavender and Red Pyle are my favorite chicken colors.
