Esther had crop surgery 8 days ago. Her energy levels, eating, poo, preening etc are great! Her diet consists of cooked egg, yogurt and added soaked crumbles on day 4 post surgery. Lots of water with added to every meal because she was not drinking well. Looking at her poo she is not dehydrated.

Her crop never feels empty. In the evening it is full, soft and pliable. After I remove all food and water overnight when I check her in the morning it is smaller but still soft and pliable. And it is still warm to the touch. Here are some pictures of the stitches and skin. I'm hoping you can also see the crop's roundness, these were taken this morning before any food/water was given.

Thanks!

Bumping up, I could really use other's opinions on if this is normal. I would like to start feeding her more or know if it's not healing correctly and I need to do something different.

Well her crop was smaller today. I am hoping it is just the swelling that continues to go down. She is very anxious to get back out! I'm going to remove stitches and try to increase her crumbles over he next few days. Maybe she can be back out by Sunday, which is supposed to be nice!
I'd still love opinions from the more experienced peeps to be sure I am doing the best for Esther!

I did surgery on our Plymouth Rock hen, she is a pet but does lay eggs. Few day ago we noticed her crop getting bigger and not cleaning out. I did the unthinkable and cleaned her crop out with help from hubby. I did get all kinds of gray grass. I hope it turns out, I super glued the crop and then super glued the skin. Not the neatest job, but she is wanting to eat. So far an hour after surgery, she ate some scrambled eggs, apple sauce, and a small chunk of banana. She looks great, we shall see in a couple of days. I hope I did it right!!!!!

I hope she continues to do well! Esther is back out with the flock but I am watching her closely still. I'm not convinced we are in the clear just yet so I am still giving her daily crop massages.

Princess is doing great after surgery. 1 day later and she is eating apple sauce, more eggs and I did start some crumble and dried worms. She loves those. She has loose poops but I am glad she is emptying out. She also laid an egg this AM. That really surprised me, she hasn't laid in about 4 days. I will feed it back to her, being we were treating her with lots of concoctions to empty the impacted crop. Glad we did the surgery but hope I don't have to do it again!!!!!
