I have butchered exactly 5 chickens before today.

Today, i killed an 8-ish month-old rooster, and i am starting to cut him up.

I cut the feet off first, at the knees. When i did that on this one, a clear, slimy fluid oozed out. It wasn't a ton of fluid, but i've never seen that before with the others i butchered, so i just want to know if it indicates anything weird. I don't want to eat a sick chicken.

Advice please!

Thank you!

That is joint lubricant fluid... perfectly natural and normal just more of it than usual!!!

Thanks. What about the big puffy slimy fatty stuff under the skin? It's the same consistency almost as the slime that came out of the knee....in that it's clear.....nothing green or anything, and it doesn't look like normal fat.

I know i'm probably sounding paranoid, but i just haven't seen this before, and it seems weird. It felt like there was water or air under the skin, but when i reached in there, it was this clear fatty stuff.

Yes, there is a membrane between the skin and the meat as well. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. I would just soak it good in ice water and you should be fine.

o.k. thanks for your help.

Isn't ascites associated with some sore of heart problem? This mucus like layer between skin and muscle is normal.

Synovial fluid is in joints, isn't it? What I'm thinking of is between skin and muscle and not limited to joint areas.

See this thread, sadly no fancy name there either.
