Need roost build help

There is a gap between the coop floor and outside run (fully predator proof). My initial thought was, “it won’t be direct air flow, but it will keep the bedding dry.” Is my thinking flawed? Should I cover this up? Would This be considered a draft?

Our high roost is about 5 feet up, the low roost is 18" up, we have seldom had a hen who couldn't jump from the low roost to the higher one. They all prefer the high roost. Actually, I identify almost ever injury or illness by noticing that a hen is on the low roost when i go lock up the coop at night.

Our rooster insists on being the last one to enter the coop at night and because we are at capacity plus one he is to big to manage hopping up in the fairly tight space.
