I'm getting an 8X12 prefab shed to use for my coop. It comes with a 54" door (assuming 6' tall) and a normal window (which I'll cover with wire). I plan to leave these doors open except when too cold/wet for ventilation. So, I want to make a screen door(s).
I had thought to make 2 doors to fit the space out of 2 X 4's and cover with 1" wire mesh but DH says that will eventually warp. he mentioned 'making' a gate such as for your chain link fence. That's do-able. I think I'd put down a 2 X 10 across the threshold to hold back the bedding (so the gate could swing freely over it). I could make 2 gates and have one stationary and the other hinged.
Any thoughts? I will also have to cut a pop door and access to nest boxes, that I will have to build once it arrives. I'm loathe to cut my brand new building, so maybe incorporate a pop door into the screening? Please, let me know your thoughts and suggestions. I'm hoping to get an automatic pop door for my birthday, but that's some months away. Thanks!

I made a screen door for my coop using 1X4" and 1X6" pine. Basically, I cut two frames to size, and screwed them together, sandwiched hardware cloth between them. The door has been in use over 7yrs, and has not warped at all. Below is a pic of the door.

Thanks! That's a great idea and I probably have boards on hand to make it.
