When I clean my coop and run I like to move the three girls into a temporary space on the lawn. In the beginning I used a dog crate but they outgrew that and it didn't give them access to grass. Next I set temporary posts in the lawn to hold up orange plastic construction fencing but that was torn down by my Great Pyrenees X puppy in minutes before I could even put the chickens in there. I have no construction skills and a tight budget. Can anyone suggest an easy tractor I can use temporarily on the grass that my puppy won't tear down instantly?

Get one of those wire crates that you can keep dogs in and put them in with no bottom on the grass. Or find an old child's playpen at a thrift store and you can turn it upside down and create a door in it to load them in and put. They would have shade then. Maybe?

This is just a pen with wheels from a child's old rusted bike (so it can be moved), and homemade wooden handles. A little cumbersome on this steep hill, but it works and the girls enjoy their outings, scratching for bugs in the grass.

A wire dog crate is a good idea. I've been looking for the old, wooden playpens with no luck; maybe its illegal to sell them now?

There are some plans online and youtube tutorials for small-ish tractors similar to that.

This is awesome, but I don't know I'm capable of building it.

Maybe you can get an idea or two from it; e.g., getting wheels from a kid's bike; maybe use the handlebars to push it; any kind of wooden crate that you can leave the frame in tact and replace the wood sides with hardware cloth (which is easily applied with a staple gun).

If it's only for temporary confinement, you might be able to use one of the newer mesh type playpens, or a baby's travel bed.

Good luck.
