I have purchased two incubators. As of today I have 4 eggs hatching. What comes next? I have a total of 76 eggs and most have made it through to hatching. This is a learn as you go thing for me but would like to cut down on fatality as much as possible. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for reading this.

BYC has a very useful learning center

Once your egg's atart to hatch let the chicks go as they have enough food for three days so do not pull them out of the incubator and just let them dry off in the incubator .....

The next step is the brooder and you should have that ready and if not get to it you have a day or so and the temp should be no lower then 90 F degrees but in Hanford Ca, it should be plenty warm right now ..

Do you have the feeders and waterier set up ?????

You want some distance between the feeder and waterier ...

Thank you for the pics and advice. I do have a brooder and the feeder and waterier. I purchased medicated chick feed for them as well. I have quite an assortment of breeds do I need to keep them separate or does it matter? This is very exciting! Happy fourth!

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Here is a nice article from our learning center on hatching eggs should you run into troubles or need any tips...

You can also ask questions in our Hatching Eggs forums too if you need help....

No, you do not need to keep the breeds separate as you brood them. You can keep them together as adults too. The birds themselves don't know they are of a different breed and don't care either!
