Hello, My neighbor who has pigeons just called me saying that a pair of her pigeons are rearing young and the hen accidentally stepped on one of her newly hatched squabs and now the squabs tips of it wings and feet are black!! Will this heal when its older?
This squab apparently only hatched 2 days ago and the mother is a first time mom. I have pigeons for 20 years and have never experienced this !! Any help and opinions will be appreciated !!

No clue buddy.
The squab has a subdural hematoma (a bruise).
On you or I it is nothing to worry about too much it is something we all have suffered.
On something that small and fragile who knows?
I guess time will tell.
It never happen to me either with my young squabs.

I am guessing it will recover.

They are more resilient than you may think.

My neighbor called me this evening and said that the little guy did not make it. I'm going to call her tomorrow and ask her what size her next box is maybe then that could have been prevented now thinking about it that might have been a good question to have asked her earlier. I would like to thank you guys on my behalf and her behalf for your help.

I guess it's survival was not to be. No nest bowl may have contributed. Who knows?.

This is what I use for nest bowls in my loft for my pigeons.

They do not tip over when birds are going in and out.

I pick them up at the Canadian Dollar store.

They are 9" to 10" in diameter; a bit of grass; wood chips; or pine needles; and they will be good to go.

Might help in future clutches.

I would not try and introduce one now for this squab.

I lost 2 squabs to my best White homers this year by deciding to clean up there area and provide them with a nest bowl.

They usually always used their nest bowl but for this clutch they decide not too.

This was in late February or March long story short both squabs perished in the cold.

They abandon their nest.

Since then they can nest where an however they like. I will not tamper with the nest until the squabs are nearly fledged.

These are the squabs I lost. They both were dead the very next day after taking this photo. One was going to have brown on it even though both parents are snow white.

Lesson learned!
