So...we have a newly hatched duckling in an urban setting. I have a decent backyard, but two labs. I am thinking/leaning toward trying to keep the duck in our garage.

What concerns me about that is ventilation. I could run a fan...

Any thoughts? Has anyone kept a duck(s) in a garage? If so, what did you use? I was thinking of a dog cage and keeping the bottom covered in pinestraw or something nice for the ducks feet.

Other than that the only thought is a pen/coop at the back of the yard that keeps the dogs off the duck...

Hi - congratulations on your duckling! I don't know what your budget for this project is, but you might be able to find a kennel (new or used) so the duck can get out and play while remaining safe from the labs. You could even set up a kiddie pool for him/her to play in, if space permits.

Do you know what kind of duck it is yet? Enjoy!

We have two Muscovy ducks. We keep them in a large dog cage in the barn at night and have them in a fenced area during the day, with a small pool, ( a dog water bowl). They are only 4 weeks old. Duck poo smells alot stronger that chicken and it gets stronger the older they get. The barn doors have to be left open to air out during the day. Mine love lettuce and little pieces of meat. Remember don't feed them medicated chick feed.
