Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

I would love to join in- I am hatching on the 26th or 27th (I hope)! I ordered silkie, silver spangled hamburg, and EE eggs from MPC and put them under a broody Buff Orpington. Ten eggs shipped. Six looked scrambled from the start. All four eggs that showed signs of growth on day 3 are still going strong- today we saw umbilical cords, heartbeats, and kicking. So freaking awesome.

3 of the 4 developing eggs are Easter Eggers. The other is extremely special to me- it is the only one of my Silver Spangled Hamburg eggs to develop. Those are the ones I wanted most. I am a little worried because it has a ruptured air cell- I am reading up on that here on BYC and it seems folks have mixed luck with hatching those. I can't find anyone who has tried to do it under a broody hen. I am hoping hoping hoping that this little egg makes it all of the way to the hatch date!

I candled my 24 Orpington eggs yesterday...day 9. I removed 4 that were infertile. I put question marks on 5 of them...uncertain-- and the rest looked good I think. I also ordered yesterday the Ovascope from Brinsea! I had made a candler with a box and flashlight but it just wasn't strong enough. The ovascope should be totally awesome. HOPE I get it in time for day 18 candling!!

Come on in Urban! Sounds like you have a nice mix of chicks coming.

Isn't it neat to see the start of it all? What do you use for a candler? I love the EE's! I have some of those in my bator for this hatch along, and others will be good ol barn yard mixes.
I have some in another bator that are Ameraucanas...blue, blue splash, black, and wheaton. Also have in the same bator, some Nankins.

My barnyard mixes for this hatch along will go to family and friends...well, I may keep one or two..we'll see.

Ok fife, you have to let me know how that candler works. My DH made me a wonderful candler, but those blue and green eggs are so hard to see through after a week. Even his good job of making me one, doesn't show through those dark eggs.

Let me know how that works...and, how much was it? When I see the word Brinsea, I see...$$. Maybe not so bad for candlers as for the bators?

I candled last night, and I had to throw one out. That's only 1 out of 16 so far. Not bad. I have a feeling these will do well, they came from just a few towns over..not shipped.

You can hook this one up to the computer and it was NOT cheap. No coupon either:( However...I'm tired of basically "guessing" as to what I'm seeing. I haven't seen veins either batch...I just look for the air cell and a black blob

( It was over $70.00)

I ordered a nice little LED candler that looks like a tiny flashlight. It is battery powered. The LED bulbs are both cool and bright- and event though I've never candled before I haven't had any trouble seeing through the green, brown, and white eggs alike. I ordered it from Incubator Warehouse for 10 dollars plus shipping. Here is the link: http://incubatorwarehouse.com/index...ies/egg-candlers/incu-bright-egg-candler.html

I don't know if those expensive ones have some other special features, but so far this one has been awesome and I could clearly see which eggs were scrambled and which were growing even in the first few days.

I have 18 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana eggs
and 18 assorted color silkie eggs in the bator that
are due to hatch on April 28. Anxiously awaiting my
new babies!

Ooh I need to join this one. I have eggs hatching the 28 - 30th of April!

13 Silkies, 1 White Crested Polish, and about 24 barnyard mixes.

I have candled mine using a LED flashlight and my hand.

I can see in the light eggs just fine but it doesn't work so well on the dark eggs.

Happy Hatching Everyone!
