Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

Well I think that I have joined this post at some time and just found that I have 14/17 eggs that are moving inside. this makes me so happy since I have had temp and humidity spikes and drops for the last 7 days. The other three are unfertilized. I am so happy:weee:jumpy

Stevenson, have you been able to check your eggs again? I hope everything is going ok.

I just did. No change. I only looked at the eggs that I didn't think were good this time...now I need to know if I should remove them all. I am going to start another thread and see what people say.

Can I join in?!

We started with 31 shipped eggs in the incubator for a staggered hatch. The first batch are due out 4/29. We candled with a high powered LED from Lowe's. After candling the first batch I can see growth in 9 out of 19 eggs. 8 of the eggs I ordered are BLR Wyandottes and the other 11 are EE's. Only 3 of the EE's are showing growth. I know they can be more difficult to see because of the darker shells, but I'm almost positive that I'm not seeing anything. I could see a blood ring in one and today I had to discard two that were rotten and STINKY!! Yuck!

Last year when we hatched eggs, I could barely see anything! The better flashlight is well worth the $. Now, I can't wait to peek at the rest of the eggs in a few days. I already peeked at 2 MF D'Uccle eggs and could see veins and eyes at 3 days! So exciting!

I do not remove the eggs unless they are rotten and start to smell. Then they're in danger of exploding and contaminating the other eggs. Other than that, I would recommend that you leave them until hatch day. Most likely you are correct in what you think you're seeing when you candle, but on the odd chance that you're wrong it would be better to continue to incubate the eggs.

And watch out for tiny bubbles forming on the outside surface of eggs! Another person on a thread I'm on...saw bubbles and decided to take a look at it closer and it exploded....in her face!!! Not a pleasant scene. I think if you find a suspect egg it is best to have a ziplock bag turned inside out on hand....pick egg up carefully inside...zip it...then examine.

Stevenson...what do you think happened?? I remember at the start of this thread...they all looked great?? Did something major happen with humidity or temp?? I can't remember. Now you have 20 viable eggs left?? I'm sorry...hope the 20 all hatch. Keep us informed....

Welcome hennypenny..loved typing that name..cute....

yep, the dark eggs..hard!

Going to check out a couple of different candlers...fifie..that's a lot of money all right...hope it works well..I would think that it should!

fife...wow, that is a nice candler! I found one for 59.95..ok, 60 dollars. Still a lot, but there was a short video on one site..looks easy to do too! Nice and stable.

They are shipped eggs. 36 of the eggs took three days to get here and only 5 of them are developing. The 18 eggs that took two days are doing great - I have 15 developing and 3 that had blood rings. I don't know that they all looked great at the beginning of the thread, maybe I was just pumped to get them in the incubator
