5 inches of snow on our ground after the storm...no loss of power....(thank you Lord) and the prediction was 6-9 inches of snow for us...SO...IF we don't get more today....could have been worse!

Hi, I just found this thread, I have 25 Lav Orp shipped eggs (2 diff shippers) due on the 30th, I have only done 1 very quick candling so far and I think it was too early, couldn't see much. I'll try again this weekend. I really want some of these eggs to hatch. I have a staggerd hatch going with shipped EE's and some of my mutts due a week later. Its too nerve racking to have the diff. hatch dates in the bator, so I'm ordering another 1588 to use as a hatcher. I know it won't get here before this hatch is due, so, I'm hatching this weekend in my Eco 20, I guess when that is done, Ill get it cleaned out quick and move whats left after final candling to that for hatching. I like hatching in the 1588 better, the chicks have more room to get out of the cartons and move arround after they hatch.
Temps have been great steady 99.5-100, humitiy 35-40%, so thats all looking good, just worried about the shipped eggs.
Good luck everyone.

I have 24 English Orpington (1/4) eggs due the 28th and I didn't see much on day 9 but I'm candling again on day 14 tomorrow...with a new ovascope egg candler. If something is developing...this time it will show good. I think I may have 15-19 viable but will know more tomorrow. My eggs were shipped from N. Hampshire. Where did yours ship from??

I didn't realize how lucky I was. Power is out all around me and trees are down everywhere. My son's school was delayed 2 hours this morning because the roads were covered in trees. BUT....my chicks and eggs have stayed warm throughout

wow, that's lucky all right. I can't believe all the storms. We live in Utah, it's been rain after rain..then I have to wonder if it is going your way after leaving here. We got a lot this past week, this week, and more to come next week, including a thunder storm by -- tomorrow I think they said. Crossing fingers here too that we don't lose power.
I was in the middle of a hatch one night when the power went out, in fact, a baby was just cracking the last part of egg away. It hatched while the power was out..cold in the bator. I threw a heavy blanket on the bator, went looking for my car/truck cord so I could take the bator out there, never did find it, until of course, the power came back on. It was only out for about 15 mins..but I was having a panic attack the whole time. My baby that hatched was fine. I keep my car plug in cord right where I know it will be for a possible next time.
I candled a few of my eggs this morning, and I see veins in all that I checked and more. Will do all of them tonight.

That was a bad storm front that moved thru. I'm glad that the power stayed on, as well! My partner in Chicken Math is having to re-attach some roofing on his chicken house. Loads of folks lost storage buildings etc. Thank goodness I'm "under" the crest of the hill, so the winds didn't get me as badly. Just lifted one piece of siding on the largest chicken house.
