Hello,
I am posting this for my mother-in-law, this was her first time with chickens. I live states away and have my own mixed bunch of girls. I will do my best to give as much detail as I can. She bought 6 chicks from two different farm supply stores. One died with in the first 24 hours for no obvious reasons. Around 2 or three days later another died with no symptoms.
The last 4 turned 5 weeks yesterday, she let out in their run which is just dirt, gave them some lettuce and left them to play. In the afternoon she brought them back in. She fed them fermented feed for the first time after bringing them in. They all seemed find no odd poops or lethargy. With in minutes they began to violently flop in their tank and die. All 4 died within a 45 mins of coming inside. She sent me a video of the last one flopping. I linked it below, please let me know if you cant view it.
I have scoured the web and come up with a lot of "kinda but not quite" answers, I know cocci can kill them quick but I have never experienced it. It almost seems like they were poisoned by something.
Thank you in advance, just looking to ease her mind and help her keep this from happening the next time she tries this all out.

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
5 week old chicks, Red sex-cross and Ameraucana for sure not sure if there were others
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Seeming fine happy chicks, suddenly thrashing and dying. 4 in a span of 45 mins!
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Other then the first two deaths weeks prior, there was no warning.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
She was unsure if the other thrashed around, she found them in the morning.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
They were outside in an enclosed dirt run. They had dry crumble and lettuce in the run. They came in ate the fermented food for the first time. Then one by one died violently, showing no symptoms other then the thrashing.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Dry Starter crumble. They were given fermented feed for the first time just before they all died.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
yes
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
n/a
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird until you can get to a vet?
Looking for answers to hopefully avoid this in the future. This was her first time being a chicken mommy and I don't want this to discourage her.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Its a large aquarium style tank, with pine bedding
