Ok, I have a bunch of bushes that go along my driveway. I m 42 years old and I planted one when I was 2 years old and that's the newest one. They probably have not been cut back or taken care of for 15 years or so. They are in desperate need of some TLC.

My question is how far back is it safe to cut them back? I don't want to kill them I want to try and save them and be healthy.

Impossible to say without knowing what kind of bushes they are. Some plants can be cut back to the ground, some can't take that and require minor pruning.
What are they, evergreen or deciduous? Are they all the same species?
One size doesn't fit all.

You likely have a nursery near you. Cut some sprigs and take them to the nursery. Someone there will be able to identify them and tell you how to prune/cut back.
Take some of each if multiple species.
Are they evergreen or deciduous?
That would be simpler and more accurate than us trying to identify the species from pictures.
Even different varieties of various species require different care/pruning techniques.
