I don't know how it happen but it seems my duck stepped on something that made him this wound, that is really deep, I'm kinda worried of the fact that he can get an infection or something like that, there's no any avian vet around here, for now he's staying indoors. hope someone could help us with this.

You can apply Neosporine (the kind that does not have pain reliever in it). Not sure wether or not to cover it up tho? Hopefully someone can chime in on that.

If he's indoors then you probably won't need to wrap it; as long as you keep it clean and free of foreign bodies. Though wrapping it wouldn't hurt, plus would help keep the antiseptic cream on the wound longer.

Search the bumblefoot threads for help on making a duck shoe if you decide to wrap

I have a couple of thoughts about wrapping - one is, it is not easy to keep a wrap on that is not too tight (for me, at least).

Also, sometimes if there was some dirt in the wound, that can lead to gangrene - from what I have read and seen on the forum.

So I would go with keeping him in a safe relatively clean place for a couple of days, do use a topical antibiotic without pain reliever, rinse two or three times a day for the first few days with saline solution or Vetericyn.

I would also give poultry vitamins in the water two times a week for a couple of weeks just for a boost.
