Ok. This last week has been very strange, even for me.

Last weekend I was sitting with my mom in the dog run. My BC was sniffing around and she and I were sitting and talking. All of a sudden we heard a hawk call. Not unusual for her home. Then a HUGE red tail hawk landed on a branch above us. Not 15 feet from our chairs. The hawk sat on the branch quietly for about 6 minutes before she flew off over our heads, calling.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. I was going to feed the horse and was heading up the "back way" which is paved and gets more traffic than the dirt road up does. So I pull up to the main road from a short access road and there, in the middle of the street is what I am guessing was a juvenile Peregrine Falcon. She was speckled brown and white and just a little smaller than my Australorp. Definitely a raptor though.

Now. I am in my car. Not a loud engine. Had the radio on. Window open. I came to a full stop and leaned out the window. Bird just stopped and turned to look at me when I spoke to both it and my daughter. Didnt hop away. Didnt seem concerned with the truck or us being there not 3 feet from it. So I thought "hurt" ? I slowly pulled the truck closer . Now I was about a foot from the bird. She still didnt seem concerned. Just stood there. Looking at me and preening. So I again spoke quietly to it. *wishing I had my camera with me!* When I spoke to it again it took one step away. Hopped and took off into the trees on the other side of the road. Obviously it was ok.

Now. I believe in omens. All the times I have ignored them I have paid dearly. This week I also had a dragon fly land on my hand as I was sitting on the front porch. It stayed there for a few minutes before it left. And I saw a company van that belonged to my fathers friend, whom we bought our first horse from YEARS ago at the coffee shop. I havent seen one of their vans in YEARS.

Add that I had a interview for a job that I think I would be really great at, Tuesday and well. I am wondering if someone is trying to send me a message. In a really in your face way. But I am not getting the whole hawk/falcon/raptor thing

Or is it just like Freud said "Sometimes a cigar is JUST a cigar"
Granted.. the first hawk.. yeah.. it's just a hawk. Really close and in all my years that has NEVER happened. But add the rarity of that .. then the falcon in the middle of the street????! I mean I must be missing it since I cant figure it out

I'd suggest making sure your runs were hawk proofed, but then again I'm a pratical sort of girl. Frankly if I saw a burning bush, I'd get a pail of water and mutter about campfires, not chat it up.

not that close to me. And my girls are in runs. Never free ranging.

We live in the city.. and although I know we have a few hawks here they wouldnt be able to get into the runs. They are pred proof with the heavy wire all around

If I saw a burning bush I would get water and put it out as well..... unless it was right near the drug dealer house at the end of the street.

I am not sure about around my mom place. No chickens as far as I know. But the one near the barn would have no issues with food. Open fields. free range dinner.. I mean poultry.

To me hawks always mean freedom, and life headed in the right direction. Just a personal thing.

And I always heard that true freedom was having a place to land when you needed to...

The only omen involving a bird that come to mind right now is an owl.
If I saw a falcon or a hawk or a golden eagle fairly up close I would be too busy admiring their awesome beauty to be thinking about omens.
