Need some opinions on dirty shipped eggs.

Yes eggs do get dirty, but I personally would never ship eggs that looked like that.

I'd use light sandpaper to get the muck off and hatch them. I'd be mad too, but if you're going to ask for a full refund, it wouldn't be right to still try to hatch the product. I wouldn't feel right doing that anyway. I'd ask for a partial refund for sure though. I'd never send eggs even close to that dirty! Maybe this is a newbie hatching egg seller just trying to make a quick buck and too dense to know better though. I dunno, but they would definately be confronted and told why you are unhappy. I think a partial refund is in order, and continue with the attempt to hatch these. They really aren't THAT bad, I have seen dirtier ones hatch, as I have hatched for other folks who didn't have a clue. I didn't wash them either, they sent them mucky, they went into the bator mucky. They hatched anyway

I was AMAZED! Some people just don't get how serious we all are about our chickens

I would wash them. Wash them in very warm water. The water must be warmer than the egg, otherwise the pours on the egg will close and suck in bacteria. I have washed many eggs with dawn dish soap in hot water and set them myself and have had no problems hatching them.

I've had good luck using Tek Trol I even use it on clean eggs keeps the smell out of the incubator use warm water not over 100 degrees and I dip them if they need a little rubbing gently then I let them dry when I'm done washing the eggs I dry them all they way with paper towels put them in and hatch them....

I have decided I am not even going to try to hatch them. The eggs they would be set with are too expensive to risk contaminating the whole hatch. Now to try and find replacements!

Good luck finding quality replacements!

Thanks!

That is just pathetic. My first thought was that they were duck eggs because some sellers send dirty waterfowl eggs, but they are CHICKEN eggs! That is ridiculous. I would be furious too. Can you imagine the filth that person's nests must be in if their chicken eggs are filthy like that? In my opinion, there is no excuse for sending dirty eggs. I deal predominately in waterfowl eggs and we won't even send dirty waterfowl eggs.

There is no excuse for it (especially chicken eggs). The birds should have clean nests to lay in and clean eggs should be sent. With waterfowl, we do have some breeds, like Runners, that notoriously do not lay in their nests. In that case, we throw out eggs that are extremely dirty and clean eggs that are cleanable. To clean the eggs, we first lightly sandpaper off what we can and then clean off the rest with warm water. I *never* send a person (even someone I am *giving* eggs to) dirty eggs. It is just so incredibly lazy to me. I send eggs that are immediately ready to go in the incubator. I would really give that seller a piece of my mind.
