Need Some Suggestions For... Life?

Animal vets are in high demand. My advice: just follow through on something you might be interested in. Get your degree, then travel for a year before continuing your education or getting a job. The job can support your "other" interests. you didn't say how many years of college you had left, because if you are in your first year, well then, maybe you should go travel FIRST.

You might consider specializing in large animal vetting, particularly horses. Good money in that if you are located near large towns with a thriving horse culture.

My son is going into vet science and will specialize in large animals. He wants to work outdoors, mostly, and really enjoys working with horses. No, he won't get rich in the area he wants to practice, but he isn't really looking for riches. He's going more for quality of life. I would have to agree with him. It's not really about the destination but the journey....

I guess my reasons for wanting a well-paying job are a bit biased. It's not really for me, though. It's for my kids. I want them to have all of the opportunities I've missed out on thanks to my home life. I want them to have good futures and the best of everything they need. (Not want. They don't NEED a brand new mustang. lol)

I want to be able to support them in all of their decisions in life. Not be laughed at as I have been.

Have you thought of nursing? The pay is outstanding and you have a broad range of job opportunities when you complete your RN; plus with a BSN you command higher wages....

This career would also enable you to travel the world; if you have a foreign language minor to back you up, the job possibilities would be endless....

Well, you sound a bit less mature than I would expect at your age. I would have guessed you were still in high school. You need to consider practical choices, not just exotic careers that actually employ relatively few people. Doesn't mean that you cannot find something you enjoy, but you need to broaden your views, and think as an adult, not as a kid.

First of all, you need to be self-supporting, and it really doesn't matter whether that is by holding some fabulous exotic job or by waiting tables at a diner. If you're self-supporting, then you need to look at where you want to be in 10, 20, 50 years--what are your goals and dreams? Not just carreer goals and dreams, but LIFE goals and dreams. Okay, once you have at least outlined some of those, you plan a path to get from the present to the future you want, taking into account a realistic assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.

It is a very tough thing making that decision.As a mom of 4 and 1 who is 24,I would suggest you go forward with a degree in animal science. A..you already know thats what you want B..get started,get the degree and go from there.With the degree there are other things that may come out of it.It is sad but in todays world the degree doesnt always have to match the job,yes for the most part but how many times do you hear of people w/a degree in 1 field working a well paid career they love in another field.So many employers just want to see the "piece of paper" aka'degree. But you need to motivate yourself and crack the books!!! You can do it and you will succeed.Dont beat yourself up because you dont know "what exactly you want to do"Everything will fall in place,work on 1 degree and then re-evaluate.....1 step at a time..Pray for guidence and have faith.......Remember that there is way tooo much emphasis on,"what you want to be when you grow up" and having to know right now and also the money...Remember it takes time as you grow and doing what you love and enjoy is far better than a job you dont like that pays more..I gave up my high paying job to be a stay at home mom,the pay sticks,we have made many sacrifices over the years but it is something we wanted after our first child was born..Would I trade the high paying job and materialistic "THINGS" for what I have had for the last 24 years??? No way!!Everyone is different and you have to do what is best for you,those are my suggestions,hope it helps.I will keep you in my prayers for wisdom and guidence. PS.Where in Missouri are you? At any rate, I don't see how not knowing what I want to do with my life makes me immature for my age? People of all ages and all walks of life can change their mind about what they want. I don't see how knowing what I want to major in, but not knowing what field of such to go into makes me immature. Nor do I really think any of the things I've mentioned thus far are exotic and they are definitely not out of reach if they were what I wanted to do. I just... don't know, anymore, and I don't think there's something wrong with that. It's life.
