, but in my other coop , either the delawares or the buff orp pullets keep pulling the hay out of the nest boxes , how is the pine chips for the nest ?---i do use the chips in the coop and i really like it , also super easy to clean----what type carpet do you lay under ?

I got a strip of artificial grass from the hardware store. It probably cost 2 or 3 dollars. We stapled it to the bottom of the nesting box. There is also a little bit of straw scattered around for them to play with while laying.

I use the shelf liner that I use in the bators and cover with shedded paper.

I finally bought a shredder 2 months ago. I hunted for just the cheapest I could find and I looked all over before I found it. Figures! Walmart even beat out the Exchange!

My daughters would call me when they'd see them and when I finally got one they were so happy I was going to be able to shred some paperwork and then found out I bought it to shred paper for my chickens. I got the "MOM! The chickens again?"

Yup....the chickens again!

I use straw but lately they have been playing in it so the beds are empty. I line the bottom of it with the feed bags so it keeps it the heat in.

We have a chicken ark with laying boxes on either end - I tried using straw when we first got the ark, but the girls kept pushing it around and straw would get all over the yard. I recently bought the washable / removable plastic nest box liners with the "fingers" from McMurray Hatchery to keep the mess down - anyone have experience with these? My girls should begin laying in the next month or two, so i want to make sure they are well set up.

I use 100% Asian silk with a soft washable fiber filled center. I have secure this at the 4 corners with rubberized tie-downs for ease of removing to service the warmer that I have placed under it. This with the insulated walls make it a nice place for them to lay.

And by the way... Yes I am kidding!!! Pine shavings for me. I have a couple of older girls who like to sleep in boxes... Ease of cleaning!
