Need suggestions: humidity?

Oh yeah and another note. The digital hygrometers are not always off. I have two of them from Wally worls that were $8 and they have been spot on (I calibrate after every hatch) since january. They are acurite brand. Thermo/hygro in one.

This is just my opinion but once you have your temp set at 99.5 or as close as possible don't adjust it period. The tiniest nudge to the knob can have huge affects in temp that are hard to correct on the fly when you are stressing about wether you have ruined the hatch because the temp either dropped to 75 or swelled to 105. I incubate and hatch at 99.5- 100% of the time. I get excellant hatch rates hatching rumpless tufted araucana which are one of the toughest chicks to hatch. My last hatch was 23 out of 24 and the weekend before was 54 out of 54. The week before not as good but had 37 out of 43 hatch, so pretty darn good still. I figure if it isn't broke temp wise don't mess with it.

true you can leave it and have good hatches but if you are having problems and are already incubating a little high it won't hurt. If you are adjusting it that much than figure out a way to adjust it the right way because you are doing it wrong. If you read much on hatching it will say to LOWER your temp to 98.5. If you are having a high late mortality than it is more likely humidity though. I had problems with a few hatches at first but have since got it under control. Good luck and happy hatching.

oh I almost forgot...if you incubate with the vent plugs in your lg taking them out at hatch time would give you the lower temp and increase ventilation which is needed also. This is what I do. It is a little harder to get a higher humidity but not as much as you would think. There are LOTS of ways to raise the humidity...sponges, towels, babyfood jars. I use empty snuff cans under the wire and they work great

I really think mine is a humidity problem. I left one vent plug in last time in order to keep my humidity up. I will try removing both this time. Thank you for the information. Its amazing how the littlest things can throw the whole process off.
