Need to know if my chicken is eggbound

I have a white leghorn that has been laying everyday for about a week and a half, and today she was in her nesting box for a bit, and then I heard her "layed an egg" call, but there was nothing in the box, and this is about the time of day that she lays.

She was in there for about 30 minutes to an hour or so, but no egg. Is this normal? I just had a chicken die two weeks ago, I'm not positive she was egg bound, but all day she was acting like she had wanted to lay, and never did, and died that evening.

Go to the Index at the top, & click on Emergencies/Diseases. There's a lot of info there! I've never had an eggbound hen, so I don't know what to say. If it ever happens to one of mine, this is where I'd get my info.

Thank you for the reply, I've already searched through, and I haven't really found a clear answer regarding my question.

one of my barred rock hens did the same thing. I put on aexzaimanation golve with vasealine, and went up to see what was the matter. I felt an egg, so I put vaseline up her vent. It took all day for her to lay, but she finally passed it. Hope this help.

I think it is hard to determine unless the are showing signs of straining all day and not producing an egg.

I had a chicken die a couple days ago and she just slowed down a bit and one day she was dead. I did a "quasi" necropsy on her as her back end felt very hard and out popped a huge mass of "cooked yolks". She started laying internally and I had no idea she was sick and there was really nothing I could do for her as there were no outward symptoms.

Hope your chicken is ok, sometimes we just have to wait.

Also, I have had chickens that go to the next box and "imagine" they lay an egg everyday.
