Need to know if possible....

To those who answered, what about the EE makes you think cockerel? Is it the comb size, redness, feather coloring, or what?

I’m wondering that too. Only because I read that a rooster will have a pea comb. I am new to all of this and am going by his size, the size of his legs, the red comb at 6 weeks, and the red in his wings. The single comb is throwing me off though. He is the dominant chicken! Rules the roost for sure!

I don’t know where you read the pea comb thing, but it’s bullcrap. Never heard of it before, and proof against it is I have a pea comb ee hen.

Pea comb definitely isn’t indicative of gender, I was just wondering since it doesn’t seem like a big comb (single or not) for a 6 week old to me. It is red though.
I very often wish the answers in this forum were longer than one word.

I read this morning when researching that EE males typically have a pea comb????? I have no idea about any of this really.... Just what I read.

EE often have pea combs, both genders. But they are mixed and can have any type of comb(pea and single most common), be any color, lay any color egg. They seem to have a type coming from hatcheries, but it doesn't always work that way.

Humm...yeah, I'm not sure about comb either. Since EEs are mutts, I agree that they can have quite a wide variety and combination of traits. My girls are only now starting to redden in the face though, at 14-16 weeks old.

I love EEs! :love I have a young rooster "finding himself" right now...so far, he seems to be remaining very respectful, and even friendly.
Oh, and yes, he has a pea comb...
