Ok. We had some awesome neighbors about a mile down the road, but the husband has severe health problems, so they had to move to town. So some other people moved there late last summer. They were very quite and never said hi to us, they just called us once because some dogs were on their property[weren't ours]. So about 2 months ago we stopped in and met the wife, she was nice. So, this place is like my future dream home, a gorgeous large house, a barn to die for, 2 HUGE workshops type thingies, a lovely chicken coop[that I want], and 103 acres. The land is mostly wooded but has two hayfields. One is about 30 acres and one maybe 10 or 15. These are probably the nicest hayfields around. No weeds, alfalfa, and grass mixed. It made some real nice hay last year. Ok. Hay has been VERY short around here, horses are going for $10 at the sale barn and such. It is almost time to cut. They said they were not going to have any livestock. Which that made me about cry because our animals don't have the best of shelters, and these people have quite new pole barn with a large hay loft, 2 horse stalls with runs, and feedlot type area big enough for 10-20 cattle and lots of storage. The barn is a dream. Anyway, we got on our horses and decided to ride down there and ask if we could buy the hay from them when they cut because they have no animals, this was about 4 days ago. We then see 4 silly looking boer whatever goats in the stall and run[nothing like my alpines:p]. So my mom says lets go back, they have animals now and will need the hay. I say it is only 4 goats, they won't need all that hay. Well mom always wins and we go back. Well our neighbor friend who is as farmer as it gets and can tell you anything about cattle, hay, or corn said something that made me about pass out yesterday. He said that those people just BRUSHHOGGED the hay fields!!!!!!!!!! BRUSHHOGGED!!!!!!!!!! So now all that hay is wasted. That could have been our hay!! We are barely getting by on 2 bales of $165 weedy, moldy crap, and they are brushhogging 45 acres of GOLD!!!!!!!!!! He asked the owner about it, and she said, ''That would make hay?''. Just had to rant.

WOW... All I can say is they live there, they have the right to do as they see fit.

There will always be something in life that one desires, but to condemn somone for not doing things a certain way, when it has NOTHING to do with anyone else. IS unreasonable and unrealistic.

I would suggest that you stop by and ask them if next year or next cutting if they would allow you at YOUR expense and time to work up the hay and haul it off for a reasonable fee.
If they say No thank you, then respect that they do have that right, and go back down the road and focus on what you can change.

If they had done that, knowing it was hay, then I would be seeing red. As it is, I just am really sorry that you guys missed such a good opportunity. I wish someone had told them beforehand.

Maybe you could go and talk to them, and see if you can get them to commit to working out something on the hay next season?

Darn that's a shame; I'm so sorry.

Yeah, I think we will ask them about second cutting. I just don't have the tolerance for city people like that. They will just have to learn. I completly understand that is THEIR land, they just need to understand what is hay and what isn't.

Sorry to say it but, yes it is their land...their hay and if they want to bushhog it that's their business.

Just simply talk to the owners about next year...

It could have been your hay if you didn’t over think the situation (my wife does the same thing), 4 goats don’t need one acre let alone 45. Don’t be afraid to ask, it isn’t their fault they weren’t blessed enough to be a farmer early on, they have seen the error of the citified ways and are repenting with what sounds like a nice barn, out buildings, some acres and a sawwwwweeet house. Walk or ride up to them, talk to them, bring them a pie or some other homemade goodness and then discuss your want to hay their field and how you’d compensate them accordingly. They’ll probably thank you for it and you might actually become friends instead of just jealous.
Peace,
Dave

P.S. You shouldn’t hate.

That's pretty harsh, IMO.
No one know everything about everything, we all had to learn sometime. No one understands anything without being taught or shown.
Maybe they moved there for the beauty and are learning as they go along. You said yourself you haven't talked to them much. Maybe welcoming them to the area and holding your hand out in friendship is a better way than being upset, jealous and mad at them.

Whoa, Nellie!
I understand your frustration, but an us-and-them attitude has never solved any problems, and the only thing your neighbors have to do in this world is die.
This is a great opportunity to welcome them to the wonderful adventures of country living. We're all somewhere on the learning curve, which is one reason this site is so popular.
You might invite them over to see your gang, for a start.

I agree.. i would just talk to them. Second cuttings come pretty quick. Maybe you could work something out.
