The waterer I'm using right now is maybe a gallon and my 3 ducks (and 2 chickens) go through that in about 30 minutes. It's unreal!
It's one of those buckets with a tray at the bottom. I need a system that has water deep enough for them to dip their heads in but is more like 5 gallons.

Any ideas?

How about something along these lines except in a large bottle?

I had the same problem...I used the gallon milk jug with the holes . I also found this pic on another forum, and it looks like it would work well too.

How old?

I use these outside..

Two of them, that waters 14 ducks right now... in the barn i have a 3 Gal more traditional type but it's more for washing down the feed, the stalled ducks get nothing over night.

I'd probably leave the standard waterer out for the chickens as they don't want or need the deepness of the rubber livestock bowls.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I could try a large, open bowl like shown. I have chickens, though and I'm not sure if they'd drown in it. Could put a rock in the middle I suppose.

- in the COOP- i use a 3 gallon hanging waterer and 2 ice cream bucket that have lids ( i cut holes in the top for the ducks heads ) they sit on a tray i got from the dollar store to help catch water spill- i have 15 barred rock and 3 pekins
Outside they have the duck pool OR open water buckets to drink from . - my chickens actually prefer the open buckets :)

right now - the chickens are Fully Free Ranged all day 7am -8pm every day they are 11 weeks old . my Ducks however are not i let them out of the coop a few times a day to range supervised and swim. the ducks just aren't old enough yet i don't think or im just over protective haha they are almost 7 week old

eventually id like to have NO food or water in the coop at all . all of it outside except for when winter comes. if i leave anything in there ( i have sand in my coop - best decision ever ) itll prolly be the 3 gallon hanging waterer so the ducks can get a drink if they want since they are in the coop more than the chickens .

Pictures! If you can :)
So wait - you have sand in the coop the ducks stay in? I've wanted to try that but haven't heard from any duck keepers who do that. I was concerned about the cold, but it's probably comparable in OH to here. Let me know your experiences with it.

i have my ducks trained on drinking from nipples in the bottom of a bucket and they don't get nothing at night. outside they get swimming pools and a couple old pans i fill and then the fresh clean water in the nipples they drink about 2 gallons a day. i have almost 20 birds now
