NEED YOUR ADVICE ASAP

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this did occur to me, but I figured they are on medicated starter still and I hold them and observe them everyday. Still good to keep in mind. It seems kind of sweet to dpy on them and see the chicks and hens together (well not actually together, but you know what I mean) it seems so natural and "motherly"

They should be fine with the heat lamp as long as there are no drafts and the other chickens leave them alone!!! Keep us posted.

If they are on shavings and the newspaper is not showing through, they should be fine as far as spraddleleg. I just wasn't sure about sawdust, which I assumed was very dry and fine.

You seem to be doing things right.

I wish I would have know about pelleted shavings before I went out last night. I just bought a massive bag of pine bedding! Ughhh. See? I should have been on BYC instead!!

hey nhchickmom - how'd they do?

i just put all mine out there and they are loving it. thanks for the reminder about sticks... i'll go add some also

and here's a tip back - i was at TSC today and they were just about out of their chicks... so the mgr was selling the lighted used heat lamps+bulbs at half off! i think i paid about $4 for the whole shebang. sure the bulb has been used for a couple of weeks but mine have always lasted forever...

yay!

They all seem fine! I got home from work about an hour ago and they were all roosting it was so cute! Then I did some spying for a while, as it is quite chilly here today, only about 50 and they were running around, eating, drinking, etc. I added an old t-shirt under their heat lamp for them to snuggle into, they all seem to like it. Thanks for all the great posts and advice! I will keep you updated if anything changes.

PS We got our regular amount of eggs from the hens to which was good. I was worried that maybe they wouldn't lay in the coop because of the babies.

Yeah it is as I learned my lesson this past winter. My DH and I went away for a ski trip, only one night and came back to find that the heat lamp had fallen to the ground and burned a hole in the floor the size of a softball. I have no idea how the whole coop didn't burn down. Man, we got lucky!
