So I've been filling out my chicken permit application and everything is looking good as far as the city is concerned. Since we are doing a lease to own on a condo, I also need the consent of the owner and the HOA. I talked to a guy yesterday who works for the company that owns the building, and he sounded receptive and asked me to email him the details of what I wanted do (which is, keep 3 chickens is an enclosed run in our condo's backyard). Today he emailed me back saying that while I had obviously done my research, we would have to close on our unit before we could investigate moving forward!
I honestly think they are trying blackmail us into buying the unit, because they haven't been selling very well. The whole reason that we're leasing instead of buying is that I haven't been able to find a job and therefore can't get a mortgage. My husband is in grad school, so he's no help in that department at the moment. I don't know what to do...everything was going so well, and then this! It would be impossible for us to close on our lease any time soon. Everyone else who's renting here is allowed to have pets; is this so different? I need some advice - I already have 3 chicks on order for June! T_T
