Needed by Nov. 13!!! Do you have a USPS shipping story?

How about paying for guaranteed overnight time sensitive mail. Mailed early Monday, had to be there Wednesday and didn't arrive till Saturday. And they refused to refund any part of the fee.

Just picked up my order of chicks last week. They called the minute the chicks got to the post office. Couldn't have been more pleased with my experience.

The big distribution centers are the problem.I have gotten 8 orders of hatching eggs.Positive i have only had one cracked egg.Negative i pay for expedited which is to be delivered 2 to 3 days its always 3 or 4. Tracking my second order i found it came from out of state to st louis in1 day then took 3 days to deliver them the 1 hour 15 minute trip to my local post office
Anoher trip with some very expensive eggs they were delivered to KANSAS CITY rather than St Louis 4 hours past their destination and then back.I got just 3 chicks from those $50 eggs.
My local post office ppl are nice helpful and sometimes would call me when my eggs came so i could get them before the post .
Now i have to go to the next town to get them.If my postman misses me they take the eggs back to the next town then they come to my post office the following day.4 to 5 days shipping
5 days to 10 is regular shipping.Probably cost $6 to $7 i imagine. Why do i pay $12 to $15 for expedited?
By the way not one egg of the first order i mentioned hatched.

If they are going to fewer days why not just close on mondays? it seems like they get about a quarter of all mondays off if not more. I mean today is columbus day and they are closed. who else but bankers and government employes get columbus day off? Martin luther King Day, presidents day, memorial and labor days aurbor day I just want a monday off day... you get the point shut them down on mondays with no pay for it either.... even if it is labor or memorial days....

Sorry everyone, I forgot that today was a holiday and the PO was closed. I will go in tomorrow to get the PO box address. If anyone is in a hurry to get it in the mail, you can always send it to: Walli Johnson, General Delivery, Sparta, KY 41086. It is a small town - they know where I am!

They are the only government agency that has to fund it themselves. All others use tax payer money to fund retirement. That would be on fix. Customer service would be another.... they have a guarantee of a job no matter.... how about they fire the rude, insensitive clerks. Like one person said they drive out of the way to use a nicer post office... I will too if time permits. The Main Post Office here has the WORST clerks.... you are interrupting their day to mail something kind of attitude, same at another big post office here. There are far too many post offices here in Nashville and I would not mind them closing HALF. I know there are 3 post offices withing 3 miles of each other downtown REALLY? we need that many???

Sorry, I don't think this thread is going the direction you wanted.... they NEED to revamp, I don't like that the small towns are what they are going after... but it get every ones attention.
This thread is going where I want it to, at least mostly. I would like to find a way to tell the PO that they are trying to fix the WRONG thing - something that in most places is not broken. The best way to show them that is to get them to understand why people use UPS and FEDEX when USPS is cheaper most of the time. I have nothing against UPS or FEDEX, but I don't believe either will take live birds or eggs to ship. That means if USPS goes under, getting eggs and birds is going to become very difficult.

Anyway, they did a thing here years ago where independent contractors were delivering certain magazines. It was a nightmare. They did an awful job and many uninformed customers blamed the post office for it, when it wasn't the mailman that did that. Left them out by the street, dropped in puddles during rain, misdelivered, no forwarding service, I could go on and on.

Tell them about that. Don't allow them to close the PO there and give it to "independent contractors."
I would love it if you could write a letter about that to include. They need to know they are cutting off their nose by using contractors. You can't tell me a young clerk behind the counter of a convenience store that takes over the PO duties is going to care where my package of chicks is when there are 5 people behind me in line waiting to pay for things.
Wish I could help but my experience has been very pleasant with our local po, but it is a small town post office. We are seeing change here though. We have had the same postmaster for many years and she has been incredibley helpful and nice for me sending eggs. She has recently been forced to retire and they hired a clerk. Luckily I know the clerk and she Is very nice as well.

Also I have ordered hundreds of chicks through the mail and only had a few dead.

Eggs are another story... I have had eggs get to me from the west coast in two days, same for the east coast. But I ordered some rather expensive eggs came from Missouri and it took 4 days for the, to get here.
I would like to get letters about that, too. My local PO has been VERY helpful and pleasant. Here the PO is doing something right and they want to shut them down for it! USPS needs to start IMPROVING their customer service to compete, not REDUCE it.

I don't know why they wouldn't refund the fee if it was express mail. It is guaranteed by a certain date and time depending on how far it is going (some distances are only guaranteed after 2 days.) There is a time limit to request a refund - I think it is 30 days. If it is still within that time period, and your local PO won't refund it to you, print out the tracking info page from their website and take it to another PO. Then write me a letter about the whole experience.

I mailed a rooster last month by express mail. He was guaranteed to be there by 3:00pm the next day. By 4:30pm the next day, he was nowhere to be found and they couldn't tell the recipient where he was. He showed up at 5:00am the next morning. He was just fine, but I got a refund of the shipping charges.

I would like letters about good experiences with local POs, too.

I edited my original post to make it clearer. They are going to 4 hours per weekday, not fewer days.

I was thinking that too, in my experience the po is great on the local level. All the problems came while in transit. I will get that letter to you ASAP.
