Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd be posting a message in a chicken forum seeking a hen sitter.
What has my life grown into?

Here's my situation:
My husband and I are out of town approximately 8-10 days per month (in June, the schedule changes ::YEAH::

Unfortunately, hen sitting has lost its sparkle for my 87 yr old father-in-law and it's become a chore for my sister-in-law,
HOWEVER; they both like the free eggs! Go figure! I wonder if this has anything to do with hauling water through 10+ inches of snow.

Anyway, I was wondering if there's anyone out there who lives close by that could help out (fee negotiable)?
We only have four hens.

Also, I'd like to know how other BYC owner's handle chicken care when they go out of town.

Thanks!
Teri

I know where you're coming from!! When my hubby starts talking vacation I get uncomfortable... When we do go on vacation our youngest who grew up feeding and watering the chickens comes out and does the chores on a daily basis...
This year I decided to downsize enough and use large feeders and waters to go more than a day... Have him check on them every 2 days and do necessary chores. Alot can go wrong if left for several days alone. They can spill the waters or tip over the feed or god forbid one get sick and need medical attention...
I feel uncomfortable about letting someone onto my farm unless they are family.. You are completely at their mercy and who knows what they will really do there when you are not around... I know it might seem paranoid but think about it....... good luck
