MA..not sure if there is a cure? Or prevention?
Welcome to BYC!
I am so sorry! Bear hugs!
No and no.
Welcome back to BYC!
There are vaccines for Marek's, but they don't prevent the vaccinated bird from contracting or spreading the virus, just from showing symptoms.
You could take one of the dead chicken carcasses to your state vet to get a necropsy done.
Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
Hopefully it’s something else.
Sorry. My friend had 3 house chickens, 2 serama 5 yr. old hens, and one silkie 5 yr.hen.
Silkies and seramas tend to be very suspectible to Mareks. Only the silkie was allowed outside where she may have caught the disease- and then brought it to the others. She lost all 3, one day apart- same symptoms. Couldn't stand yet would eat well if she hand fed them.
I don't believe the Mareks vaccination can prevent it - or no one would be having this happening in their flocks. It is thought it may lessen the symptoms but, any survivors would carry Mareks for their lifetime.
Howdy and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
