Needing advice on a sick duck.

She needs no less than 125 ml of fluids per day, and if she were mine I would shoot for twice that.

Tube feeding food if they are dehydrated can kill them.

If she were mine I would do 40-60 ml fluids now, wait 60-90 minutes and repeat. Then do one or two more times at 4-6 hours apart. Once you have done that, then tube food.

I would not give oil of any type, period. If she aspirates oil she could get lipoid pneumonia, which would probably be fatal.

How much did you tube?

Wildlife advise small amounts. We did 25 mls of the liquid slurry and it was given at about 3 o'clock (2.5hrs ago) She has had a nice poop so far and everything has stayed down. She has been drinking a lot of water as well.
I will add more water to the next feeding though.

Thank you again.

25 ml for a hen her weight is only 1% of her body weight. Avian veterinarians recommend to start with 2-3%, so keep that in mind.

25 ml is a safe, very conservative amount to start with, but I think you will need to bump that up pretty quickly.

I worry about the critical care because it's not formulated for birds, so kep that in mind.

What size tube did you get?

We were worried she may not be able to handle a bigger amount of food at once. But I have been increasing the amount at each feeding. She has perked up and even had a kale salad after her feeding before bed last night. She is drinking very well! I am just about to go down and do another feeding.
I looked at a lot of different liquid diets for critical ill birds and I have limited resources so I am truly doing what I can with what I have. I understand it isn't ideal and I will be better prepared next time. I am learning as I go.
I got the tube size you suggested and it has been working wonderfully. Her dose of baytril went well this morning as well

Forgive me for my time in responding, I am feeling overwhelmed with information and my mind is a little scattered.

I appreciate the help!
