Needing advice...or therapy. Too chicken to let the chickens out...

I enjoy making my rounds in the mornings collecting the memory cards from the cameras and putting clean cards in for the night. I used to leave the cameras on during the day but then I got way to many things including yours truly setting the cameras off so now I have them set with the built in timers and have them set to go on in the evening and off in the morning.

The new game camera came today but wasn't the camera I ordered so I sent it back. I re-ordered the original camera I ordered. We'll see if they send it or another different camera.

I have only one coopers hawk around in the winter, when its greener there are tons of hawks and eagles!
I got buzzed at eye level about 10 feet away by a bald eagle today. He was surprised as I was. I was coming around the corner of the barn and he was flying towards the lake (water has a little open water on it, so he was off to go fishing and had no interest in all the fat hens running for cover.) Rooster was coming unglued though. Good practice for him :gig

The second camera came and again it wasn't the camera advertised so I sent it back too. I wrote a review and tried to contact the seller and Amazon to no avail.
The camera I ordered.

They didn't publish my review and when I tried to write another review it says I already wrote a review but they haven't published it. I did manage to finally send an email to the seller via Amazon, Now I guess it's a wait and see.

Yesterday on Valentine's Day Hansel missed the hawk flying above and failed to warn the girls. IMG_5283 2.jpg Thankfully my observant Harriet started making a growling sound while looking up causing me to look up.

That's so frustrating, I'm sure! Ugh! I hope you finally end up with the right camera or a full refund.

I thought I'd update the the past few days, I've been able to let them out for about 30-45 before dusk while I stand guard. I'm not sure how you'd judge it, but they seemed thrilled. :) One of the hens stayed very close to me...I wonder, can chickens remember events, I mean, if she was near one of the other two hens who were killed, would it be something she'd remember? She never used to be this wary and cautious.
I absolutely believe they remember traumatic events. I had a raccoon claw through the plastic corrugated roof of my coop and kill a few of mine and the rest of them wouldn't go near the coop after that. They ended up roosting on our deck railing next to the house.
