Was reading this and brought me to a few questions
I'm on 3 acres in a neighborhood. Technically not supposed to have chickens but I OKed it with the neighbors (one to my east has about 30 in a 20x20 pin - kind of sad).
I'd like to free range but it would have to be supervised as there is a large dog on one side and it's pasture fencing with the big squares. I'd have to clip wings any way just to feel safer.
Would it be ok to let them out like 30 or 45 min before sunset but only on weekends? Basically give them a few hours of out time a week. Which leads me to another question - I'll only have 3 or 4 hens - how big of a run should I have if not free ranging? I'm trying to keep it fairly small.
