Needing help with a sick pullet please!

My vet gave me Metacam to try on her. It's an anti inflamitory. I will let you know if it works or not.

Thanks...Karen

There is no change in her as of today

I wish I knew how to help her.

There is still no change in her. She is eating/drinking fine & her poop is fine. Just can't get around good. When we pick her up to give her her vitamins & Metacam..she screams at first like she is in pain

Then she will be ok after he has her. I tried checking her legs but didn't seem to feel anything. Do you think maybe she dislocated one of her legs???

I put the roosts in after she started acting this way so I know it can't be that. All I can think of is that she slipped on the lenolium floor that has shavings over it & hurt her leg or she is sick but I just can't seem to figure it out. I would have thought by now if she were sick she would be showing some inprovement. She still can't walk right though

There still seems to be no change except for now she lays on her side with her legs out

I just don't know if she will make it or not

I added no slip padding to the floor to help her get around & not slip.

I'm sorry to say but my guess is she has the neurological form of Marek's. Prognosis isn't great but some have treated their birds, although, usually they aren't quite the same and can continue to shed the virus to others. I've heard of someone treating with Hypercium. You can get the homeopathic at Super Supplements or a health food store (are we still calling them that these days?). Hypericum is suppose to treat neurological problems.

Our vet had us try an anti-inflammatory because generally there is inflammation around the sciatic nerve which is why they can't walk/stand. Unfortunately, the bird we were treating developed respiratory issues from the virus and we had her put to sleep. Sadly, being a herpes virus, as our vet said, you can control the symptoms but it could come back, usually if the bird gets stressed. I'm so sorry and I hope I'm wrong, looking at her and seeing the symptoms, it was my first thought.

My vet thought that might be the case too, but I spoke to the breeder that I got them from & she said she has never had any birds with the Merek's disease & she has many birds. Wouldn't the siblings to this bird also be sick if that were the case??? I don't know much about chicken dseases as for I'm new to owing them
