Needing help

Hello all. I've been wanting chickens for quite a while, I used to live on a ranch that had a flock of about 20 chickens and I can't wait to pass this experiance on to my daughter, unfortunatly I don't have the internet(other than my cell phone) to download or launch websites in order to find out if I can have them in my area, I live in the Palmdale/Lancaster area of California, known as The antelope valley or High desert. Does anyone live in this area or can anyone assist me in finding out. I tried city hall but with the lines and a 3 year old it makes things difficult...

You could call your city hall, and make sure to stay anonymous. Or, it's always better to ask forgiveness than permission.

It must be an urban situation if you're wondering about whether or not you can have them. Just try a few laying hens in a small coop; they won't be a nuisance. Then, if it works out, you could graduate to a rooster.

I've been in the area often, but never lived there. I wouldn't exactly call it urban, small city/town to complete barren desert, depending on exactly where you live is a better description. I doubt you'll have a lot of problems, unless it is with your local development. There is a HUGE amount of poultry in Norco, which is pretty close.

Palmdale allows chickens, but not roosters in the Ag-1 zoning district, but only for use by the family residing on the premises. If you live in R-1 and your lot is 20,000 sq ft or larger, you can have 3 poultry or fowl (no roosters or peafowl) per 10,000 sq ft. Lancaster allows 12 on RR properties of at least 15,000 sq ft.
