Hello,
I got 3 ducks in the early summer that were supposed to be all girls. I built them a very secure 6x4 house attached to a very secure 6 x 10 run. They can come and go as they please between the house and the pen. I recently started using a 10x10 tractor with kiddie pool to move them around the yard, because the pen no longer has grass and they were making an awful mess with the mud. We use this when someone is home to keep an eye on them during the day, as it's not really secure- about 4-6 days a week. It turns out that one of the ducks is a boy. I got them from Metzer, and the person I spoke to confirmed this. She also told me that 2 girls and a boy would be fine together. The boy is a blue swedish, and the girls are a welsh harlequin and a chocolate runner. I have the option of getting a replacement (but they must ship 2 ducks together, so that means 2 new ducks) or getting a refund. I don't want to rebuild my secure house/pen. So my questions are: is the boy/girl ratio ok? If it's not, is the secure pen/house combo big enough for 5 ducks? So far there have been no problems with the 3 of them, but they are only 15 weeks. Any thoughts?

A lot depends upon the drake. Many are hormone driven and oversexed. Others are not so aggressive. I'd leave things 'as is' but would have a Plan B in mind in case he starts overbreeding the hens. It may be as simple as separating him from them during the height of the breeding season.
