I noticed for the past week one of my buff silkie chicks seemed to be breathing a little harder then the others. No gasping just breathing harder I thought she was just scared of me.

I can hear her sneezing from all the way across the room as I type this she is breathing even harder now but not gasping and is sneezing.

What is wrong with her?? and is there anything I might have at home I could give her because we are snowed in!!! PLZ HELP ME!!

I have a video of her uploading now but I need to know something now and the video is taking forever to upload.

All I can give you is a the hope that you might have a little antibiotic of some sort on hand that you could dissolve in water and give to her.

Make certain she gets plenty of liquids and be certain to isolate her from other birds.

the only antibotic i have is some perscribed to me for a infected root canal could i break this open and give her some??? She seems to be eating and drinking fine.

I was really hopeing you wouls say tablet, easier to cut up. I would empty the capsule out and divide it into at least six parts and preferably eight. and dissolve one part into some water, just a tad bit of water, and give that to her.

Amoxicyllin is pretty safe to use that is why it's so widely prescribed.

It will take it a few hours to start working and I would see how she is doing in the morning and go from there.

Is this a chick you are raising from a hatch ?

Is this chick one that has been in the house and NOT
exposed to any other outside established chickens
that you may have ?

Are you using cedar shavings ?

Is your brooder closed up, do you have a heat source on the chick ?

Do you smell a strong oder of ammonia in the chicks housing ?

Does this chick receive ANY kind of feed besides starter ?

Lastly, antibiotics MAY NOT be an answer here, you may be
dealing with a viral infection. Give antibiotics as a last resort, but
no so far along that the chick can not recover.

The chick is a ordered chick from ideal arrived in good health.
Never been exsposed to any outside chickens.
I am using pine shavings
They are in a big blue tote has a heating lamp on top with a 60watt bulb stays around 95%
no strong smells
they are eating starter and grower medicated only

The chick is 3 weeks old I have noticed she breathed harder then the other 2 in the past week but notice it was worse tonight.
