Neighbor and dogs ... what to do

Quote:
I 100% completely agree. It is the female dog owner's responsibility. It is a shame not all people act responsibly. I think the world would be a better place if they did. Since not all people act responsibly, you have to figure out how to deal with your neighbor. I really can't help you on this one.

I'm afraid they will use this as an excuse to not alert me anymore if their dogs are loose. I think the underlying thing is that they know we are growing tired of the chain saw. We realize that this is how they make a living so we try to understand but most days it goes from 9am to 9 pm with no break even on the weekends. Oh well, what do you do.

I wouldnt worry about your neighbors dog...worry about your own dogs...
keep your own dog on your property and you wont have any problems with the neighbors.
as for you being responsible for their dog if it has puppies... umm..no...you wont be legally responsible. Shes letting her dog in heat roam around...any judge would laugh her out of the courtroom....

this is exactly how it works at my parents house, all dogs run loose, chickens stay fenced in a run tho. there is a guy who breeds mastifs, they are very friendly dogs and they to run loose but when his female is in heat she stays pened untill shes no longer in heat. you can sugest that you neighber do the same with their female. they can eisily get a small to large kenel cheap the lowes i work at caries the large one for about $300 and less. if they want to breed her its their responsibility not yours if she gets out. my parents also live on a mountain and our dog and many other were never fixed

we do however wait patiently for the male mastif to make his whay down the mountain to the guy who has the female wolf dog ! he's done it twice but the puppies go so fast , they are extreamly cute

get electronic/ invinsible fencing.

neuter your dog, any decent purebred dog breeder never let their female dogs run loose while on heat.

Yep...either deal with it (meaning ignore, then be ready to listen to their *itching if their female gets knocked up by someone other than their male dog), fence, or get your dog neutered (then you can't be accused of mutt puppies). I didn't want to fence when we moved out to the country...thought it was stupid to have to do so, since it was a "family farm," we had a few acres, and our dogs were super friendly. It took just one person to complain, and our next tax refund went into fencing. I was ticked for a year, but now I enjoy having the property fenced. It's been a big relief these past few years not having to worry about someone complaining about a pile of dog poop or a licked grill tool.

ETA: You wouldn't have to fence all 10 acres...

You don't have to fence all 10 acres is true, just do it on their side. A box brace set up works pretty well for the ends. Good fences make good neighbors works only part of the time.

I know about jerk neighbors got a few of my own.

Good luck VT.

Unless you want to breed your dog why not get him neutered so he can't get your neighbors or any other dog pregnant.
