Neighbor Dog Attacked Another Bird

You can not get a livestock guardian dog unless you put up a fence that will keep the dog on your own property. A barb wire fence will not keep your dog in, nor will it keep the neighbor's dog out.

We live out in the country too. I just had two of the neighbor dogs kill 13 out of my 19 birds in a pen a few weeks ago. I called the cops. The cop said their is a leash law even out in the country.

For goodness sake, shoot him! He is on your yard, so I don't think there is a problem with shooting him by the law. You could also trap him and send him to the pound if the owners refuse to do something. However, these would be last resorts. Go talk with the owners first and see if you can talk something out. good luck

I have found that giving the dog lead poisoning is the only sure fire way to stop him from killing chickens. I would politely ask the neighbor to keep his/her dog off your property. If that didn't work, then consider the alternative. It's not pleasant, but sometimes necessary. A lot of times, while pursuing your chickens, & you interfere, the dog will turn on you or your kids.

Yep there sure is, load a shot gun with salt rock. Cut the top off a standard shell, empty the shot, fill it with rock salt then repack with cotton. If that does not work, don't cut the top off.

We've lost two chickens to two different dogs who were off leash and came onto our property. We decided to take matters into our own hands and put up fences. NEVER trust owners to take responsibility for their dogs. And while retaliation might feel good at the time, there's nothing to say that someone else's dog won't come into your yard and get one of your chickens.
