neighbor dog, I am furious!!

I have tried to free range chickens for years and if it isn't an owl it's the neighbors dogs. We live in the county and they just implemented a leash law about a year ago. Every time I call the sheriffs dept they tell me they can't do anything if I don't have proof!! They say I need pics or video!!! what. How am I supposed to film dogs tearing up MY chickens when I have a spotlight in one hand and a shotgun in the other!!??? I hate to hurt a dog esp. if it is really the owner's fault. I feel your pain....

I really think that the first start, at least to keep the peace, is to send them a bill. As much as you'd like to, try not to inflict pain onto the dog, espeacially since it's in their nature to do what it is doing ( sorry, but true ).
Do you have any dogs yourself? What about using the poop as evidence?

Use a paint ball gun if you know whose dog it is. Phone animal control and tell them the proof is the dog is six different colors.
